Environmental Conservation

INDF-UGANDA provides for the conservation, sustainable management and development of forests for the benefit of the people of Lwengo, Masaka and Bukomansimbi region; to provide for the Management of forest reserves for purposes of protection and production of forests and forest produce; to provide for the sustainable use of forest resources and the enhancement of the productive capacity of forests; to provide for the promotion of tree planting; to consolidate the law relating to the forest sector and trade in forest produce. We have supported the communities of Masaka and Lwengo district with 30,158 coffee and tree seedlings in a plan that was hatched out in 2012 for every household to plant at least 20 tree seedlings to conserve environment. This project supported 1,508 families with tree seedlings, built their capacity on tree maintenance and formed 120 committees to manage the activity in the long run   In 2019-2022 plans, we shall be doing the same in Bukomansimbi district. This is because this district is severely affected by terrible weather conditions yearly hence causing hunger and famine amongst the people. Also, the communities do not have/know the culture to conserve nature. Efforts are geared towards getting the communities know that man’s activities to the large extent have contributed negatively to the environment through poor farming methods, charcoal burning, bush burning among others and in a short time desist from such practices
